Dr Farooq, Omar extend greet people on Diwali, Urs Sheikh-ul-Alam (RA)

Srinagar: On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, the festival of lights, the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah have extended warm greetings to the people of Jammu and Kashmir and the rest of the country, wishing for peace, prosperity, and strengthened communal harmony.
National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah, in his message, said, “I hope the day increases the prospects of peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir in particular, and the rest of the country in general. I wish people a very happy Diwali, hoping they will celebrate their happiness with those who are economically challenged.”
Vice President of the Party and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also greeted the people and emphasised the importance of unity and brotherhood, stating, “May this Diwali strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and communal harmony in J&K. I wish people a very Happy Diwali, hoping that the day augurs well for everlasting peace and prosperity in J&K.”
Meanwhile, Party General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta, and Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq have also conveyed their Diwali greetings to the people.
The National Conference leadership has urged the people to celebrate the festival with the spirit of inclusiveness and compassion, and to extend the joy of the occasion to all sections of society.
Dr Farooq and CM Omar have extended warm greetings to the people on the annual Urs of Hazrat Sheikh-ul-Aalam (RA), revered patron saint of Kashmir. Dr Farooq Abdullah paid rich tributes, highlighting the saint’s lifelong mission of peace, reform, and universal brotherhood that continues to shape Kashmir’s cultural and spiritual ethos. “His teachings have moulded generations and strengthened our identity rooted in compassion and religious tolerance,” he said.
Omar Abdullah lauded the saint’s profound influence on Kashmiri society, describing him as a symbol of unity and wisdom. “His shrine at Charar-e-Sharief continues to draw people from all faiths, reflecting his enduring legacy,” he added.
Party leaders including General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Nasir Aslam Wani, Tanvir Sadiq, Abdul Rahim Rather, and others also extended greetings. Meanwhile, NC leaders Imran Nabi Dar and Abdul Majeed Bhat Larmi urged the administration to ensure adequate arrangements at Asatan Aaliya Qaimoh (Kulgam) for the Urs observance.
