BAHRAIN: The 2nd Marvel Technology Hockey Tournament organized by the Young Stars Hockey Club, Bahrain, under the aegis of Hockey J&K in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, commenced today with great fervor and excitement. The much-awaited tournament is aimed at reviving the passion for hockey—the national game of India—and providing a platform for young talent to showcase their skills.
The opening match, played between Budgam and Srinagar, set the tone for the tournament with thrilling gameplay and spirited competition. The event drew sports lovers, community members, and youth in large numbers, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for hockey in the region.
The tournament was inaugurated in the gracious presence of Dr. Syed Javed Iqbal Kamili, former Principal of V.B. College and Head of the Department of Commerce, G.M.C., who attended as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, Dr. Kamili highlighted the importance of hockey in India’s sporting history and the role of such tournaments in nurturing discipline, teamwork, and character among youth.
“Hockey is not just our national game, it is our pride and legacy. Champions are not born overnight; they are created on practice fields through dedication, unity, and passion,” he remarked.
Dr. Kamili encouraged the players to adopt the true spirit of sportsmanship—playing with respect, perseverance, and enthusiasm—emphasizing that victory lies not only in winning trophies but in building character and resilience for life.
The Organizing Secretary, Mr. Adil Shabir Ashai, who is also a former national hockey player, an FIH Level-2 certified coach in Bahrain, and a member of the Bahrain Hockey Association, expressed gratitude to Hockey J&K, the J&K Sports Council, and all contributors for their support. He stated that the Young Stars Hockey Club remains committed to encouraging the youth to pursue hockey as a career and passion, while strengthening its place in Kashmir and beyond.
The tournament, with participation from various districts, will continue in the coming days, giving young aspirants the opportunity to experience competitive hockey while fostering unity and brotherhood through sports.
