SKUAST-K establishes 5 improved sheep units in Gurez

SRINAGAR: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir has established five units of improved Gurez sheep at Baduab, Aanghikot villages of the Bandipora’s border subdivision, Gurez.
The improved sheep breed units have been established under the ICAR-sponsored network project on ‘Animal Genetic Resources’ operational in the SKUAST-K’s Division of Animal Genetics and Breeding, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry.
MLA Gurez, Nazir Ahmad Khan along with Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-K, Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, was the chief guest at the event organised for the sustainable development of livestock sector at MARES, Izmarg, Gurez. MLA Khan appreciated the SKUAST-K’s contribution in developing agriculture and livestock sector in Gurez.
Prof Ganai briefed farmers about various innovative approaches of farming, importance of conservation of native genetic resources and scientific management, selection methods for improving the production and Productivity.
The Vice Chancellor during his two-day visit to Gurez also chaired the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of KVK Bandipora and KVK Gurez. He was accompanied by Director Extension Prof Raihana Habib Kanth, Heads of the KVKs and their scientific staff.
Critical inputs like Kashvet feed and deworming medicine were also provided to 120 tribal sheep breeders under the project.
PI of the project Prof Syed Shanaz expressed her gratitude to MLA Gurez, VC SKUAST-K, Director Extension and other colleagues.
Awareness prog on ‘Right to Edu & Prevention of Child Exploitation’ held at Govt Girls Hr Sec School, Pampore
PAMPORE: An awareness programme titled “Right to Education and Prevention of Child Exploitation” was organized today by the Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Pampore, in collaboration with the Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Forum, HQ Delhi (JK Unit). The event took place at Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Pampore.
The programme was conducted under the chairmanship of Ms. Uzma Amin, Munsiff/JMIC and Chairperson of the Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Pampore.
The event was honored by the esteemed presence of Mr. Shabir Ahmad Malik, Hon’ble Principal District & Sessions Judge Pulwama and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority Pulwama, who served as the Chief Guest.
Other distinguished dignitaries present included Mr. Mohammad Asif Malik, Learned Tehsildar Pampore; Mr. Noveed Sarwar Khan, Assistant Public Prosecutor Pampore; Mr. Khalid, Station House Officer Pampore; Mr. Mohammad Nayeem, Station House Officer Khrew; Advocate Aijaz Ahmad Khan, President of the Bar Association Pampore; Mr. Mudasir Ahmad Naikoo, President of the Human Rights & Anti-Corruption Forum HQ Delhi JK Unit; Mr. Sameer Ahmad Rasray, District President, Human Rights & Anti-Corruption Forum, Budgam; and Dr. Shaheen Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Principal of Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Pampore and CDPO official.
The programme commenced with inspiring speeches by students of the institution, emphasizing their awareness and understanding of the theme.
In his address, Mr. Shabir Ahmad Malik stressed the importance of the Right to Education as a fundamental right and highlighted the collective responsibility to prevent child exploitation.
Ms. Uzma Amin emphasized the vital role of legal services institutions in spreading legal awareness at the grassroots level. She also discussed the significance of controlled use of mobile phones as educational tools and cautioned against their misuse as tools for child exploitation.
Mr. Mohammad Asif Malik highlighted the responsibilities of parents, teachers, and the community in safeguarding children’s rights.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Advocate Aijaz Ahmad Khan, President of the Bar Association Pampore, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty, and students for their active participation in making the event a success.
