6,239 Indian faculty feature in Stanford’s World’s Top 2% Scientists

NEW DELHI: In a report on the World’s Top 2% Scientists released by Stanford University and Elsevier, 6,239 Indian faculty have been featured in the list under the single-year category. In 2024 alone, 3,372 were acknowledged in the career-long category in the report.
Among those featured in the top 2% global list for the single-year ranking, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) contributed the largest share with 755 researchers, followed by over 330 from the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and 117 from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore.
A total of 80 researchers from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), with a significant 56 hailing from AIIMS New Delhi, earned a place in the prestigious top 2% global scientist list.
Beyond India’s leading institutions, the list also features 50 scientists from the state-run Jadavpur University, approximately 88 from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), 46 from Aligarh Muslim University, and 51 from Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
Remarkably, 59 researchers from Chitkara University, a private institution in Punjab, were also recognised in Stanford’s top 2% scientist rankings.
