Srinagar: In a tragic incident that has sent shockwaves through the journalist community, the eldest daughter of Hyderabad-based Kashmiri journalist Khursheed Wani was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Telangana on Tuesday.
The young woman, a college student, was struck by an unidentified vehicle in the Hayat Nagar area of Hyderabad while on her way to college. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital by passersby, she succumbed to her injuries.
According to family sources who spoke to KNT, the driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. “Her life was cut short on her way to college. The driver did not stop,” a grieving relative said.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. “We are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify and trace the vehicle involved,” a Hyderabad police official confirmed, the news agency reported.
The tragedy has plunged two communities into mourning: the journalist fraternity in Hyderabad and the family’s native village in south Kashmir.
The victim’s mortal remains will be flown to Srinagar and taken to her ancestral home in Devar, Tral, in the Pulwama district for final rites.
Khursheed Wani, originally from Tral, has been working with a private television news channel in Hyderabad for the past six years.
