SRINAGAR: Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced the extension of admission deadlines for various undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and PG diploma programmes until September 15, 2025. This extension is available for all ODL (Open Distance Learning) and online programs, excluding certificate courses. Prospective students can access the admission portal through the university’s official website at [www.ignou.ac.in](http://www.ignou.ac.in) or directly via [https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/](https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/). Candidates interested in enrolling can complete their application process on this portal before the deadline.
To apply, applicants need to create a User ID and Password on the SAMARTH portal and should be prepared with an active mobile number, email ID, scanned copies of academic documents, recent photograph, and payment details via debit/credit card or net banking. It is crucial for applicants to exercise caution and vigilance while submitting their forms, ensuring they remember their User ID and Password for future reference. Additionally, creating a DEB ID is mandatory for application submission, and prospective students are advised to generate their DEB ID beforehand. More details on this process can be found at [https://www.ignou.ac.in/viewFile/SRD/notification/DEBIDCreation.pdf](https://www.ignou.ac.in/viewFile/SRD/notification/DEBIDCreation.pdf).
IGNOU has introduced around 60 new programmes, including four-year undergraduate courses in disciplines such as Commerce, Economics, History, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology, Anthropology, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu, Social Work, Philosophy, Biochemistry, and Facilities and Service Management. The university has also launched new postgraduate programmes like M.Sc. Geography, Geo Informatics, Applied Statistics, and Renewable Energy, among others.
Regional Director, Dr. A. H. Rizvi, emphasized the university’s commitment to providing quality, accessible, and flexible education opportunities across Kashmir and the Union Territory of Ladakh. He highlighted that students can avail themselves of academic support and counseling at 30 Learners Support Centres affiliated with the Regional Centre Srinagar, where they can also perform practical lab activities and other academic tasks.
In response to requests from stakeholders and to accommodate potential learners who faced difficulties earlier, the university has further extended the last date for admission to various programmes until September 15, 2025, for the ongoing academic session. This extension provides a valuable opportunity for those who missed the initial deadline to enroll before the final date. Prospective students are urged to seize this chance and apply for their preferred programmes promptly.
Dr. Rizvi also warned against falling prey to fraudulent individuals or callers offering to facilitate admission payments through QR codes, WhatsApp, or social media platforms, as IGNOU only processes payments through its official channels on the university website.
Furthermore, the last date for re-registration for the July 2025 session has also been extended till September 15, 2025, with a late fee of Rs. 200 for all programmes offered in ODL and online modes. Students are advised to re-register timely to avoid last-minute rushes.
