DDC Chairpersons hoist National Flag; pay tributes to martyrs, highlight developmental profiles
SRINAGAR: Kashmir marked the 79th Independence Day with patriotic fervor and unity across all districts, reflecting the region’s rich cultural heritage and resilient spirit. The celebrations coincided with the national ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign under the broader ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiative, emphasizing India’s journey of independence and fostering patriotism in every household.
The day featured flag-hoisting ceremonies, speeches by local officials, and tributes to freedom fighters and martyrs. Special homage was paid to those who lost their lives in the recent cloudburst in Kishtwar district, leading to the cancellation of cultural events as a mark of respect.
In Ganderbal, the main function was held at Qamaria Stadium, where Chairperson District Development Council (DDC) Nuzhat Ishfaq hoisted the national flag and took the salute at a march past involving contingents from police, CRPF, forest protection, and students. Ishfaq highlighted Ganderbal’s progress in public safety, healthcare, women empowerment, and socio-economic development, assuring the public of continued efforts towards holistic growth. The event was attended by officials including Vice Chairperson Bilal Ahmad Sheikh and Deputy Commissioner Jatin Kishore.
Similarly, Pulwama’s main event took place at District Police Lines, with DDC Chairperson Syed Abdul Bari Andrabi hoisting the flag and inspecting the parade, joined by lawmakers, police, military officials, and citizens. The march included contingents from JKP, CRPF, Home Guards, NCC cadets, and school students. Andrabi praised Pulwama’s recent achievements, including recognition for governance excellence and awards like the NITI Aayog’s Aspirational Blocks ranking and the ODOP Award 2024. He called for unity and collective effort to ensure equitable progress.
Kulgam’s celebration was held at District Police Lines, where Chairperson M Afzal Parrey led the flag hoisting and march past involving CRPF, police, and school contingents. The district’s development milestones, especially in welfare schemes and infrastructure, were highlighted by DDC officials. The event saw participation from local officials, police, and residents.
Kupwara hosted its main event at District Police Lines, with Chairman Irfan Sultan Panditpori hoisting the flag and taking the salute during the parade, which featured contingents from CRPF, JKP, Home Guards, NCC cadets, school children, and special commandos. Panditpori announced Kupwara’s recent recognition as a top-performing district, including the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence and the Sadhna Tunnel project, which promises all-weather connectivity to Karnah. Floral tributes were paid at Martyrs’ Memorials by officials and citizens.
Bandipora’s celebration at S.K. Sports Stadium saw Chairperson Abdul Gani Bhat hoist the flag and take the salute at the march past involving contingents from police, paramilitary, NCC, and students. The district’s notable progress in tourism, healthcare, and infrastructure was highlighted by officials, with celebrations extending to sub-divisions and local institutions.
Shopian’s main event was at the District Police Lines, where Chairperson Bilqees Jan hoisted the flag and inspected the parade comprising police, CRPF, NCC cadets, and school children. She emphasized the district’s development strides and ongoing projects aimed at transforming Shopian into a model district.
Budgam’s celebrations took place at the Sports Stadium, with Deputy Commissioner Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat leading the flag hoisting and parade. The event saw contingents from police, paramilitary forces, and schools, reflecting the district’s progress in infrastructure and social development. Bhat reaffirmed the district’s commitment to inclusive growth and transparent governance.
