Dr Kouser Parveen, who was then posted at Government Degree College Kupwara, stands as such a transformative figure in my life. Though officially a Botany professor, her influence extended far beyond plant sciences, nurturing seeds of curiosity, determination, and excellence in countless students like me.

While most teachers naturally focus on students within their disciplines, Dr Parveen possessed a rare quality that drew learners from across the academic spectrum. This cross-disciplinary approach to mentorship represents a profound understanding of education’s true purpose – not merely to impart subject knowledge, but to inspire curiosity, critical thinking, and personal growth in all students regardless of their chosen fields.

What makes her story particularly compelling is how she recognised that meaningful education must sometimes transcend the artificial boundaries created between disciplines. Dr Parveen demonstrated that the most valuable lessons – perseverance, intellectual curiosity, and ethical thinking – are universal and applicable across all fields of study.

On a bright morning in 2010, I met Dr Kouser Parveen on the vibrant Kupwara college campus, her poise and intellect leaving a lasting impression. What immediately struck me about Dr Parveen was her genuine passion not just for botany, but for the growth of her students. She possessed a rare ability to recognise potential in individuals who hadn’t yet discovered it in themselves.

What began as respect for an exceptional teacher gradually evolved into admiration for a mentor who cared deeply about her students’ holistic development. Luckily, she was always available for academic guidance, career advice, or simply a motivating conversation during moments of doubt. Looking back, I realise that her greatest gift was showing us not just what to learn, but how to become lifelong learners ourselves.

Dr Parveen’s influence extends far beyond the botanical sciences, reaching into the very foundations of character development and career preparation. While her expertise in plant sciences is unquestionable, I am sure her greater gift lies in nurturing well-rounded individuals prepared for diverse professional paths and life challenges.

Perhaps most significantly, Dr Parveen has a remarkable ability to build confidence in her students. Through her guidance, countless students have discovered talents and abilities they didn’t know they possessed, transforming their self-perception and future aspirations.

As I reflect on my academic journey and the pivotal role Dr Kouser Parveen played in shaping its trajectory, I am filled with profound gratitude. What began as routine meetings transformed into life lessons that continue to guide my decisions and aspirations. Dr Parveen’s influence on my academic path cannot be overstated—her careful guidance from time to time helped me identify strengths I hadn’t recognised, overcome challenges I thought insurmountable, and pursue opportunities I might otherwise have overlooked. The confidence she instilled made it possible for me to aim higher and work more diligently than I ever thought possible.
