SRINAGAR: A Battlefield Symposium titled “Hajipir – Valour Beyond the Pass” was held on Thursday at Thimayya Hall, Baramulla, to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of the 1965 Indo-Pak War. The event brought together veterans, defence experts, strategic analysts, serving officers, and members of the academic and defence communities to reflect on, analyse, and learn lessons from one of India’s most significant military achievements.
Organised by the Dagger Division of the Chinar Corps in collaboration with the United Service Institution of India (USI), the symposium began with an inaugural address by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Dagger Division. In his speech, the GOC honoured the valiant soldiers who participated in the operation, stating, “The Battle of Hajipir stands as a testament to the grit, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment of our soldiers. Their legacy continues to inspire generations.”
The keynote address was delivered by the Corps Commander of Chinar Corps, emphasizing the lasting importance of the Hajipir operation. He highlighted the resolve and bravery demonstrated by Indian soldiers under extremely challenging conditions and noted that the lessons learned are applicable to today’s complex, multi-domain battlefield environment.
The symposium featured presentations by decorated veterans, engaging panel discussions on battlefield leadership and operational planning, as well as displays of personal memorabilia and rare archival footage and photographs. Attendees gained a vivid insight into the heroism that marked the Hajipir assault. Panelists shared stories of battlefield improvisation, enduring harsh weather, enemy fire, and the jubilation of victory. The session concluded with tributes to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
A special segment was dedicated to veterans sharing personal accounts of their participation in the battle—many revisiting the site for the first time in decades. These emotional recollections reinforced the values of camaraderie and sacrifice, leaving a profound impact on the younger generation of soldiers and attendees.
In his closing remarks, Major General PK Goswami of the USI reiterated the commitment to honouring the legacy of our fallen heroes and congratulated the Chinar Corps for hosting such a meaningful and vivid symposium.
