SRINAGAR: A delegation of the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA), led by its National Convenor Nasir Khuehami, called on Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo (IAS), on Thursday and raised several pressing concerns related to the student community, particularly those pursuing education within the Union Territory.
During the meeting, Khuehami, according to a statement issued here, provided a detailed overview of JKSA’s role as one of the most active and credible student bodies, working both across India and internationally to represent and support students from Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the association’s continued efforts in advocating for student rights, facilitating scholarships, providing emergency aid, extending logistical support during crises, and assisting students in distress across various states. He also spoke about the association’s coordination with government institutions to address student-related issues.
Khuehami brought to the Deputy Commissioner’s attention the challenges faced by students, including inadequate accommodation facilities for those coming to Srinagar from remote districts and the Gujar Bakerwal hostel facilities. He also emphasized the lack of proper student facilitation centres, the urgent need for mental health support, and the importance of structured career guidance for youth facing academic stress and uncertainty.
He underlined the significance of administrative support and institutional coordination in effectively addressing these issues and ensuring a safe, inclusive, and supportive academic environment. He conveyed JKSA’s willingness to collaborate with the district administration to bridge existing gaps and act as a communication channel between students and the government.
DC Srinagar Akshay Labroo gave a patient and empathetic hearing to the concerns raised and assured that all issues would be looked into seriously and addressed on merit. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to taking all necessary steps for the welfare and empowerment of the student community, the statement said.
Appreciating the work being done by JKSA, the Deputy Commissioner commended the association’s proactive role in supporting students, especially during emergencies and challenging times. He expressed interest in engaging further with JKSA and exploring avenues for collaboration to address student-related concerns more effectively.
Khuehami thanked the Deputy Commissioner for his positive response and proactive approach, expressing hope that continued cooperation would result in concrete measures and long-term benefits for students across Jammu and Kashmir.
