Booking for Model Y starts at Rs 58.89 lakh
MUMBAI: Elon Musk’s Tesla officially entered the Indian market with the launch of its Model Y in India, starting at Rs 60 lakh, as its first showroom opens in Mumbai on Tuesday. The Tesla India showroom is located at Maker Maxity Mall in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).
The base model of Tesla Model Y is priced at Rs 59.89 lakh (Ex-Showroom Mumbai), while the Long-Range Model Y is priced at Rs 67.89 lakh (Ex-Showroom). Booking for both variants has already begun, and deliveries are expected later this year.
Welcoming the EV giant in the country, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the company has arrived in the “right city and right state.”
“I welcome Tesla here in Mumbai. Tesla has opened an experience centre here, and it is a statement that Tesla has arrived and it’s a statement that Tesla has arrived in the right city and right state,” Fadnavis, who inaugurated the Tesla Experience Centre in BKC, said.
The Chief Minister also stated that, given Maharashtra’s EV infrastructure and policy, the state would be a preferred destination when Tesla decides to set up its manufacturing plant in India.
“I am happy that Tesla chose Maharashtra as the state has become a leader in electric mobility. Tesla is launching its Model Y in India. Maharashtra has the most dynamic electric mobility. policy…I believe Maharashtra will be a preferred destination when they decide to do manufacturing in India,” he added.
Tesla’s India entry was highly anticipated. Last year, several reports claimed that Tesla was looking for land in India to set up a manufacturing unit, but that plan failed to materialise.
It was later stated that the EV giant is not interested in setting up a manufacturing plant in India just yet and will enter the world’s third-largest auto market with showrooms selling imported cars.
