Traffic Police advisory, updates for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) for today

SRINAGAR: The Traffic Police Headquarters has issued an important advisory regarding road conditions and traffic management on NH-44 and surrounding routes, effective from July 6, 2025, 1600 hrs to July 7, 2025, 1600 hrs, and updates for July 8, 2025.
Key Traffic Disruptions and Precautions:
– Slow Movement on NH-44: Due to the breakdown of two Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs), single-lane traffic was observed between Nashri-Dalwas and Marog & Kishtwari Pather. Authorities urge travelers to exercise patience.
– Identification Requirements: Commuters from Reasi, Katra, Udhampur, Patnitop, Doda, and Ramban are advised to carry valid photo IDs after cut-off timings from Jammu/Udhampur to facilitate smooth passage.
– Travel Advisory: Passengers and LMV operators are advised to undertake journeys during daytime hours, especially between Ramban and Banihal, due to the risk of shooting stones and landslides.
– Load & Vehicle Fitness: Goods carriers transporting perishable and live stock are instructed to load vehicles as per official advisories. Overloading and insufficient fuel are discouraged. Vehicle fitness checks are mandatory before starting journeys.
– Special Instructions for Fruit & Load Carriers: Operators transporting perishable goods from the Valley towards Jammu must load and park vehicles before 9:00 am at designated spots between Navyug Tunnel and Levdoora to ensure smooth movement.
– Restricted Vehicles & Road Usage: HMVs with 6 and 10 tyres are permitted on Dhar road. Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts, especially near landslide-prone zones between Ramban and Banihal.
Traffic Plan & Advisory for July 8, 2025:
– Passenger & Private Vehicles: Subject to favorable weather, sanjy convoys and LMVs will be allowed from both Jammu and Srinagar sides on NH-44. HMVs will operate on alternate days, with coordination between TCU Jammu and TCU Ramban.
– Yatra-Related Traffic: For Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025, cut-off timings for LMVs/passenger vehicles are from Jammu (0600-1200 hrs), Udhampur (0700-1300 hrs), and Qazigund (1130-1400 hrs). HMVs will be permitted from Udhampur after road assessment, but not after 1900 hrs.
– Special Route for Essential Goods: To facilitate the movement of perishable and essential goods during the Yatra, trucks carrying petrol, diesel, LPG, FCI supplies, and empty cylinders are advised to use Mughal Road on return trips.
Route-Specific Updates:
– Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244: Allowed for LMVs and HPSVs from both sides between 0800-1600 hrs (Kishtwar to Anantnag) and 0900-1500 hrs (Anantnag to Kishtwar). No heavy vehicles other than designated HPSVs are permitted.
– Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road: Under favorable conditions, LMVs and HMVs will be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0500-1000 hrs and from Sonamarg towards Kargil from 1130-1730 hrs, ensuring smooth Yatra convoy movement.
– Mughal Road: Open for passenger cars in both directions from Behramgala and Herpora between 0700-1800 hrs, provided weather conditions are favorable. HMVs up to ten tyres are allowed from Shopian towards Poonch.
