SRINAGAR: Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals, a trusted name in the eye care has successfully performed the first Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) in the Kashmir Valley. This was done under the supervision of Dr. Birjees Hakak, a Glaucoma Specialist at Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals, Srinagar.
The implementation of this cutting-edge treatment by Sharp Sight, represents a big step forward for eye care accessibility and quality in Jammu and Kashmir.
MIGS is an advanced surgical technique which is designed to manage glaucoma, a serious eye issue that may lead to permanent vision loss. MIGS is a more advanced technique unlike traditional glaucoma surgeries. It is performed by using microscopic incisions, which allows quicker recovery, reduced complications, and better control of intraocular pressure a key factor in managing the disease.
“Until now, patients from Kashmir often had to travel to metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai to access MIGS. We are proud to bring this advanced glaucoma treatment in Kashmir, making it accessible for our local population,” said Dr. Birjees Hakak, following the successful procedure.
This new initiative by Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals Srinagar made the milestone for introducing the first hospital in the Valley to offer advanced glaucoma care, showing its commitment to providing the best eye care in the world.
Dr. Birjees also highlighted the importance of awareness and timely intervention to cure Glaucoma.
Glaucoma is often referred to as the ‘silent thief of sight’ because it can progress without any symptoms. Regular eye check-ups and early diagnosis are crucial to prevent irreversible damage.
With the introduction of MIGS, glaucoma patients in Kashmir now have access to world-class, minimally invasive surgical care without the burden of long-distance travel. This advancement is expected to greatly improve treatment outcomes and quality of life for patients suffering from this sight-threatening condition.
