Commemorative functions held across J&K
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference Wednesday paid rich tributes to two of its legendary leaders—Khawaja Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah and Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beigh—on their death anniversaries.
The commemorative day began with National Conference General Secretary Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, accompanied by senior leaders, youth and women wing representatives, district and provincial office bearers, and legislators, leading a solemn prayer and floral tribute ceremony at the final resting place of Khawaja Ghulam Mohiuddin Shah at Astana-e-Aliya Syed Muhammad Mantaqi (RA) in Srinagar.
Reflecting on the life and legacy of Shah Sahib, AM Sagar said, “His bond with the National Conference and Sher-e-Kashmir was forged in the crucible of struggle and sacrifice. He was not a mere participant in politics—he was a pioneer of purpose. His vision extended beyond the corridors of power to the hearts of the people. His commitment to social justice and the rights of the underprivileged marked him as a statesman of rare stature.”
Describing Shah Sahib as “an institution unto himself,” AM Sagar highlighted his instrumental role in shaping transformative legislation that championed the cause of the poor and working class.
In a parallel observance, party leaders and functionaries also gathered in Sarnal, Anantnag to pay homage at the grave of towering party figure, Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg. Fatiha was offered, and floral tributes laid, as members recalled Beg Sahib’s monumental contribution to the democratic and developmental journey of Jammu and Kashmir.
Later in the day, a joint commemorative function was held at the party headquarters in Srinagar to honor the enduring legacies of both Shah Sahib and Beg Sahib. Presided over by Haji Ali Muhammad Sagar, the gathering saw participation from members of the YNC, Women’s Wing, Minority Wing, Social Media and Media Wing, and Provincial and District bodies.
“Their names are not just etched in history books but in the consciousness of every conscientious Kashmiri. They stood tall for the values of integrity, justice, and service—values that continue to illuminate the path of the National Conference,” said Sagar, addressing the gathering.
Simultaneously, a tribute function was held at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu, underscoring the statewide reverence and admiration both stalwarts continue to command.
