BARAMULLA: In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, the police in Baramulla have resolved two separate theft cases, arresting the accused individuals and recovering stolen property, showcasing their commitment to public safety and law enforcement.
In the first case, police at Police Station Pattan solved a theft incident reported from the Mechanical Irrigation Subdivision Pattan. The theft, which occurred during the night of March 10-11, 2025, involved the theft of copper coils and cables from the Lift Irrigation & De-Watering scheme structure at Gund Ibrahim, police said in a statement.
Acting on a written complaint from the Assistant Executive Engineer, an FIR was registered, and a detailed investigation was launched. Through diligent probe and intelligence inputs, police identified a habitual thief, Nazir Ahmad Dar of Hygam Sopore, as the prime suspect. Despite multiple raids, he initially evaded arrest but was finally apprehended at Diver Crossing in a Mahindra Bolero vehicle. During interrogation, Nazir Ahmad Dar confessed to the theft and led police to the recovered stolen copper coils and the seized vehicle used in the crime.
In the second case, police at Police Station Boniyar swiftly responded to a complaint from Mohd Ramzan Parray regarding illegal cutting and theft of poplar trees from his property in Pehlipora Boniyar. The investigation led to the arrest of suspects Mohd Maqbool Mir and Manzoor Ahmad Parray. Both suspects confessed to their involvement, and upon their disclosure, police recovered the stolen poplar logs from their possession. The prompt action by the police has been appreciated by the local community for its professionalism and dedication.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order, urging citizens to remain vigilant and cooperate in curbing criminal activities. These successful operations underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to safeguard public infrastructure and social harmony in the region, the statement added.
