HAJIN: The residents of Hajin and its adjoining areas in Bandipora district are facing severe difficulties due to the unavailability of a veterinary doctor, which they claim is affecting their livelihoods and the well-being of their livestock.
With a growing population and numerous dairy farms in the area, locals are struggling daily as the absence of a veterinary surgeon has left them helpless in treating their ailing animals.
The villagers express their frustration, stating that the lack of professional medical care for their livestock is causing immense inconvenience.
“There are over two lakh cattle in Hajin, and the absence of a doctor is a major issue,” said Wajahat, a local resident. He further shared his ordeal, stating, “I have been waiting for two days to get treatment for my sick cow, but no doctor is available at the office.”
According to official figures, one veterinary surgeon has been appointed for the area, but he is currently assigned to census duty by the government. In his absence, Dr. Arif from Asham has been temporarily handling emergency cases since then. However, locals insist that this arrangement is insufficient to meet the growing demand for veterinary services in the area.
The residents have urged the authorities to take immediate action and post a full-time veterinary doctor at the Animal Husbandry Department in Hajin.
They fear that prolonged neglect could lead to significant losses for cattle owners and dairy farmers, further worsening their economic conditions.
