GANDERBAL: Hundreds of Anganwadi workers and helpers took to the streets in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal on Monday, demanding the fulfillment of their long-pending demands, like a salary hike and an enhancement of their monthly honorarium.
The protesters, holding banners and raising slogans like ‘We Want Justice’, assembled at Eidgah Ganderbal and marched towards the main market.
The workers expressed strong resentment against the government for not fulfilling their genuine demands, condemning what they termed as “anti-worker policies” of the government.
According to the protesting workers, the government has failed to fulfill its promises, leaving thousands of workers struggling. “We have been pressing for our demands for several years, but the government is not paying heed. This is pushing our families to face hardships, said one of the protesting workers,” said one of the protesters.
The workers said the government must enhance their monthly honorarium at the earliest, providing relief to the workers.
Another protester pointed out that besides their Anganwadi work, they also perform duties for the Health Department, Education Department, and Social Welfare Department without receiving payment for the extra work.
The workers appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to look into the matter and fulfill their demands.
