MeT Predicts More Wet Weather In Kashmir
Srinagar: The upper reaches of the Kashmir Valley witnessed fresh snowfall while moderate to heavy rainfall was recorded in most parts of the valley.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar said the ski resort of Gulmarg received the highest accumulation of 33.0 cm of snow. Apart from Gulmarg, snowfall was also reported from higher reaches of Kupwara, Shopian, and Bandipora, adding to the winter chill in these areas.
The MeT office forecast light to moderate rain/snow at most places till the night of February 28 with isolated heavy rain/snow over both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions during the above period.
It said the weather will be generally cloudy with light rain and snow at scattered places during March 1 and 2.
“Forecast: 27-28th Feb: Generally cloudy with Light to moderate Rain/Snow at most places with isolated heavy Rain/Snow over both Kashmir Division & Jammu Division during the period .
1-2nd March: Generally cloudy with Light Rain/Snow at isolated to scattered places.
3rd March: Light to moderate Rain/Snow at many places.
4-6th March: Generally dry.”
The MeT has also issued an advisory stating that there is a possibility of temporary disruption of Surface transportation mainly over Sadhna pass, Razdan Pass, Sonamarg-Zojila-Gumri axis,
Mughal Road, Sinthan pass and other major roads of hilly dists. It has also advised tourists/travellers/transporters to plan their trips accordingly and follow admin/traffic advisory. Farmers have also been advised to suspend irrigation and other farm operations during the period.

Giving parameters of the rain and snowfall during the past 24 hours, the MeT office said that the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir received equally 33.0cm of snow and rain and Kupwara
1.5cm of snow and 20.3mm of rainfall.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, received 7.8mm of rainfall; Qazigund, Qazigund 12.2mm, Pahalgam 20.8mm, and Kokernag 6.4mm during the past 24 hours.
The day temperature recorded on Tuesday decreased by 4 to 7°C in many parts of J&K during the period. Srinagar recorded a maximum of 10.4°C and this was 1.6°C below the average during the period. Kupwara 8.6°C and Kokernag 11.6°C.
During the past 24 hours, night temperature has witnessed an increase and decrease of 1 to 3°C in the Kashmir Valley at scattered places, with the lowest minimum temperature recorded in Gulmarg -2.5°C, Kupwara-0.4°C and Srinagar 1.7°C respectively, the MeT office said.
