Jammu emerges overall champion in 18th UT J&K Wushu Championship

JAMMU: The four-day 18th UT J&K Wushu Championship concluded at the Indoor Hall, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, with District Jammu securing the overall championship title. The event witnessed participation from approximately 1,200 Wushu players representing 19 districts, six Khelo India centers, and J&K Police.

Satish Sharma, Sports Minister of UT J&K, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. He commended the Wushu Association of J&K for providing a platform to young athletes and promoting the sport across the region. Highlighting the achievements of J&K’s Wushu athletes, he praised the UT’s first Asian Games and World Championship medalists, as well as the lone National Awardee (Dronacharya Awardee) in Wushu.

In his address, Sharma emphasized the government’s commitment to making J&K a sports hub, encouraging parents to motivate their children towards sports for their physical and mental well-being. He also congratulated the medalists from the recently held 38th National Games in Uttarakhand and announced plans to establish a Wushu Academy in J&K to enhance performance in national and international events.

Overall Champion – District Jammu

Runner-Up – District Srinagar

Second Runner-Up – KIC Jammu

Kuldeep Handoo (Dronacharya Awardee) delivered the welcome address, acknowledging the J&K Sports Council’s support for Wushu. Several dignitaries attended the event, including Rajeev Sharma (Sports Council Member), Sadat Aslam Wani (Vice President), Ritika Singh (Manager), Maqsood Rather (Joint Secretary), Kamal Kishore (Organizing Secretary), and other officials.

Bhavneet, General Secretary of the Wushu Association of J&K, presented the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Sports Minister, guests, media, and the J&K Sports Council for their continuous support in promoting Wushu.
