MeT predicts intermittent rains and snow till Feb 10

Srinagar: The Meteorological department has predicted intermittent rains and snow in parts of Jammu and Kashmir till February 10.
A Meteorological department official here said there is a possibility of generally cloudy weather towards evening with light rain/snow at isolated higher reaches towards late night on Monday.
He said during February 4-5, there are chances of generally cloudy with possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at scattered to fairly widespread places till February 5 forenoon, and improvement thereafter.
From February 6-8, there weather conditions will likely to remain cloudy and dry, he said.
He added that during February 9-10, a fresh spell of light rain, snow at isolated to scattered places of Jammu and Kashmir likely to occur.
The official advised tourists, travelers and transporters to follow advisories from administration and traffic department.
Meanwhile Kashmir plains were lashed by intermittent rains while some higher reaches including tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Pahalgam received yet another light spell of snowfall overnight, officials said.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, and other parts of the valley received light intermittent rainfall during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Some parts of Jammu also received light rainfall overnight.
The Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district received 5.1cm of snowfall, Pahalgam 2.8cm and Kupwara 2.5cm of snowfall during the period, the Meteorological Department Srinagar said.
Some higher catchments of the Kashmir Valley including the Pir Panjal Range of mountains in south Kashmir also received light snowfall.
Barring Gulmarg the night temperatures were recorded above normal at most of the weather stations following snowfall.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar recorded during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday improved and settled at 2.5°C against the 0.8°C the previous night and it was 3.1°C above the average for the place during this period.
The Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district dipped by a few notches and recorded at a low of -7.6°C against the -7.4°C and it was 0.2°C below the average for the valley of meadows during this time.
The tourist resort of Pahalgam also witnessed a fall after snowfall and recorded at -2.6°C on Sunday against the -0.4°C while at Kokernag it was sub-zero against the -0.8°C the previous night, the MeT office said.
