Friday Following Shab-e-Meraj: Thousands throng Hazratbal

Srinagar: Amidst prayers and religious fervour, Shab-e-Meraj concluded in the Kashmir valley on Friday.
A large number of devotees thronged the Hazratbal shrine on the banks of the Dal Lake to offer prayers and catch a glimpse of the holy relic – believed to be a hair strand of Prophet Mohammad.Night-long prayers were also held on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday amid a sub-zero temperature at the shrine.
The Shab-e-Meraj is observed to commemorate Prophet Mohammad’s ascent to the highest levels of the heavens.The authorities had made elaborate arrangements at the Hazratbal and other places of the Kashmir valley for the devotees for smooth prayers.

Various roads and streets leading to the shrine were decorated and markets in Hazratbal wore a festive look with vendors doing a brisk business.
To cater to the heavy rush of devotees at the shrine, the traffic police had issued a route plan for traffic movement leading to the Hazratbal shrine.
Reports said that congregational prayers were also held at Asarisharif Kalashpora, Jenab Sahab Soura, Lal Bazar, Pinjoora Shopian, Khiram Sirhama Anantnag, Seer Hamadan, Kaba Marg Qaimoh and Aham Sharief Bandipora in north Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, besides other religious and political leaders, greeted the people on the occasion.
