Security Tightened For Republic Day Celebrations In J&K

SRINAGAR: Multi-tier security arrangements would be put in place for the smooth conduct of the Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir, Inspector General of Police V K Birdi said here on Tuesday.
The main Republic Day function will take place in Jammu which will be presided over by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as the chief guest.
“The security preparations for January 26 are in full swing. Multi-tier security arrangements will be in place so that the people will enjoy the function and parade,” the IGP said.
In the Kashmir valley, the main event is scheduled at Bakshi Stadium here where deputy chief minister Surinder Choudhary will preside over the function. Meanwhile Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, convened a meeting with officials from civil departments and security agencies to assess the final arrangements and facilities for the national event.
During the meeting, he reviewed the facilities for the participants and emphasized on overwhelming participation in the Republic Day celebrations.
He also instructed for hassle-free entry of participants at the venue, and directed concerned departments to appoint nodal officers to facilitate them.
He called for the illumination of key government buildings and institutions to foster a festive atmosphere.
Later, he also visited Bakhshi Stadium to assess the arrangements for the seamless execution of the Republic Day celebrations.
During this visit, he inspected the availability of drinking water and electricity, installation of LED screens, sound systems, seating arrangements, sanitation, and toilet facilities.
