5 People Killed, 2 Others Critically Injured In Kargil Accident

Kargil: A road accident near Shilikchay bypass in Kargil area of Ladakh on Tuesday evening claimed the lives of five individuals and left two others seriously injured.
Officials said that the accident occurred when a Scorpio vehicle travelling from Kargil to Drass collided with a tipper near Shilikchay Traffic Control Point (TCP) as result of which both the vehicles plunged into a deep gorge. Five lives were lost in the accident, they said.
The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Hassan, son of Muhammad Hussain, a resident of Stakpa; Liyaqat Ali, son of A.K. Raza, a resident of Choskore; and Muhammad Ibrahim, son of Haji Muhammad, a resident of Budgam. The other two victims, believed to be non-locals, are yet to be identified, they said.
Soon after the accident, emergency services quickly rushed to the scene and shifted the injured to the district hospital Drass. The condition of the two injured persons is stated to be critical.
Dr. Muhammad Jaffer Akhoon, Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) Kargil, expressed profound grief over the tragedy.
