SRINAGAR: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police have arrested three drug peddlers in Awantipora and Sopore and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
“A police team at a checkpoint established at Datpora Dogripora arrested 02 drug peddlers, identified as Bilal Ahmad Lohrihanji son of Ali Mohd Lohrihanji resident of Gund Prang Hajin Bandipora and Reyaz Ahmad Mir son of Ab Gani Mir resident of Datapora Dogripora. During the search, 1.460 Kgs of grinded Cannabis Powder was recovered from their possession,” police said in a statement.
Meanwhile in Sopore, during patrolling at Harwan Sopore, a Police team led by SHO PS Bomai under the supervision of SDPO Sopore, intercepted a drug peddler identified as Manzoor Ahmad Mochi son of Mohammad Shaban Mochi resident of Harwan Sopore. During the search, 137 grams of Charas were recovered from his possession, the statement said, adding that all the accused have been arrested and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drugs in the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
