J&K Thang-Ta Team secures 2nd position at 30th National Championship

SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Thang-Ta team has brought pride to the Union Territory by securing the second position at the prestigious 30th Sub-Junior and Senior National Thang-Ta Championship 2024-25, held from January 4 to 6 in Haridwar.

Competing against athletes from 26 states, the Jammu and Kashmir team showcased exceptional talent and determination, clinching an impressive total of 62 medals: 20 gold, 20 silver, and 22 bronze.

While Manipur took home the championship title, Assam secured third place, highlighting a competitive field of participants showcasing the best of India’s Thang-Ta talent.

In a noteworthy achievement, Mr. Ayjaz Ahmad Bhat was awarded the coveted “Best Coach of the Year” by the President of the World Thang-Ta Federation. This accolade underlines his unwavering commitment and significant contributions to nurturing and advancing the sport.

Expressing pride in their accomplishment, the Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Thang-Ta Association conveyed, “We are immensely proud to have secured second place in this national championship. This is a moment of great pride for all of us. Our team’s rigorous preparation paid off, and we are thankful to Madam Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the J&K Sports Council, for her steadfast support. The residential coaching camp provided by the council was instrumental in helping our players refine their techniques, address their shortcomings, and enhance their stamina.”
