SRINAGAR: Ashaq Hussain Dar, Director of the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) on Tuesday visited the IGNOU Regional Centre in Srinagar for a courtesy meeting with Dr. A.H. Rizvi, Regional Director of IGNOU. The key focus of their discussion was fostering collaboration between the two institutions to enhance the quality of education for IGNOU learners and improve job employability through the induction of students into various government schemes and programs run by NIELIT.
Ashaq emphasized several online and offline skill development programs that could significantly benefit IGNOU students, particularly in the fields of IT, electronics, and computer science. He outlined various certification opportunities, including digital literacy, cyber security, blockchain technology, drone technology, and software development, which would complement the academic offerings of IGNOU.
Furthermore, Ashaq presented information on paid internship and placement schemes available to IGNOU students, showcasing industry partnerships that provide access to valuable placement opportunities. This initiative aims to create a bridge between academic learning and the real-world requirements of the industry.
The meeting also addressed NIELIT’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship among IGNOU students. NIELIT offers mentorship and training programs designed to assist students interested in launching their own businesses within the IT and electronics sectors, equipping them with the essential skills needed for startup success. It was proposed that the two institutions collaborate on research projects focusing on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
In a gesture of cooperation, Dr. Rizvi invited Ashaq to become a key member of the Regional Centre’s placement cell to enhance the placement efforts organized by IGNOU. Correspondingly, Ashaq extended an invitation to IGNOU computer science students to participate in NIELIT’s placement drives, ensuring they benefit from the organization’s extensive networks.
The meeting concluded with both parties expressing their enthusiasm for exploring these opportunities further, emphasizing the need to develop a collaborative framework that will provide IGNOU students with greater access to NIELIT’s programs and resources.
