SRINAGAR: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police have arrested six drug peddlers in separate incidents in Pulwama, Sopore, Srinagar and Kulgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In Pulwama, acting on credible intelligence, a police team of Police Station Pulwama at a checkpoint established at Muchpona Pulwama apprehended a drug peddler identified as Ishfaq Majeed Wani son of Ab Majeed Wani resident of Pulwama. During the search, 18.70 grams of heroin were recovered from his possession. Subsequently, he was arrested and a case under relevant provisions of the law was registered in Police Station Pulwama. Further investigation is underway to uncover potential links and networks involved in the illegal trade.
In Sopore, a police team led by SHO Police Station Dangiwacha at a checkpoint established at Laiser Crossing intercepted a vehicle (Ecco) bearing registration number JK05M-4854 driven by Muneeb Jabar Dar son of Abdul Jabar Dar resident of Muqam Shaheedmir Bomai Sopore. Upon searching the vehicle, the police team was able to recover 1.028 kilograms of a substance resembling charas. The vehicle used in the commission of crime have also been seized.
In Srinagar, a Police team of Police Post Tengpora at a checkpoint established at Tengpora near Flood Channel apprehended two suspicious persons namely Love Kumar and Vipin Kumar, both residents of Delhi. During the search, a substantial quantity of contraband substance was recovered from their possession. During the course of the investigation, upon the disclosure of both accused persons, more quantity of contraband substance was recovered in the instant case.
In Kulgam, a police team of Police Post Mirbazar while patrolling in Furrah intercepted a suspicious person identified as Mohd Rafiq Sheikh @Raff dozer son of Habibullah Sheikh resident of Furrah. During a search, 248 grams of Charas-like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.
Meanwhile, a police team of Police Station DH Pora at a checkpoint established near Govt Middle School Gandhwani, DH Pora intercepted a suspicious person identified as Waseem Ahmad Bhat son of Fayaz Ahmad Bhat resident of Gandhwani DH Pora. During the search, 1235 grams of grinded Cannabis like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.
All the accused have been arrested. Cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigations have been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drugs in society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
