Seize contraband, psychotropic substances from multiple arrests across valley
SRINAGAR: In a concerted effort to combat drug abuse in society, police have arrested nine drug peddlers across various districts of the Kashmir Valley, recovering a significant quantity of contraband and psychotropic substances from their possession.
In Srinagar, a police team from the Nowhatta police station conducted routine checks at Ganj Baksh Park, apprehending two individuals: Khalid Ahmad, son of Mohd Ismail Rather, a resident of Rashan Ghat, Soura, and Basit Ahmad Dar, son of Bilal Ahmad Dar, from Usmaniya Colony, Wantpora, Eidgah. A substantial quantity of contraband was seized from them, according to a police statement.
In Baramulla district, police at a checkpoint set up at Azadgunj Chowk intercepted Mubashir Mohiuddin Dar, son of Gh Mohiuddin from Azadgunj, and recovered 200 grams of charas. He was subsequently arrested.
Bandipora police also conducted checks at Papachan bridge, where they apprehended Irshad Ahmad Wani, son of Habibullah Wani from Hajin, and seized 47 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from his possession. In another operation at Shokbaba Sumlar, 40 grams of charas were recovered from Ab Rashid Sheikh, son of Sonaullaha Sheikh from Arin.
Additionally, a police team at a checkpoint in Chandergeer stopped a Maruti Alto vehicle, arresting the driver, Mohmad Aqib Wani, son of Gh Mohd Wani from Hajin, and recovering 98 bottles of Codeine Phosphate. The vehicle used in the crime was also seized.
In Sopore, police from the Putkha police post arrested two drug peddlers, Aamir Farooq Dar, son of Farooq Ahmad Dar from Ningli Sopore, and Javaid Ahmad Gujri (alias Diya Goor), son of Ghulam Nabi Gujri from Jamai Qadeem Sopore, recovering 20 grams of brown sugar from their possession.
In Kupwara, a police party intercepted a motorcycle with registration No. JK05D-5529 at a checkpoint near Batergam. The rider, Mohd Anwar Raina, son of Mohd Israiel Raina from Amroohi, Karnah, attempted to flee but was apprehended. During the search, 14 grams of brown sugar were found. Preliminary investigations indicate that he was allegedly transporting the contraband to promote drug abuse among local youth, posing a significant threat to community health.
Cases have been filed under relevant sections of the law at respective police stations, and investigations are underway.
The police emphasize that tackling the drug menace requires a collective effort, urging community support for Jammu and Kashmir Police in their crucial mission to safeguard society.
