Srinagar: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested seven drug peddlers in Sopore, Kupwara, Baramulla and Ganderbal.
A police spokesperson in a statement said that in Sopore, a police party headed by In-charge Police Post Fruit Mandi under the supervision of SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir and SHO Police Station Sopore at a checkpoint established near Fruit Mandi Sopore apprehended 03 persons. They have been identified as Mohsin Manzoor Gojree, son of Manzoor Ahmad Gojree, resident of Noorbagh Sopore; Imtiyaz Ahmad Najar, son of Ghulam ud Din Najar, resident of Nowpora Kalan Sopore; and Ali Mohammad Lara, son of Mohammad Amin Lara, resident of New Colony Sopore. During search, 20 grams of contraband brown sugar like substance was recovered from their possession.
The spokesperson said that in Kupwara, a police party of Police Post Khurhama at a checkpoint established at T-Chowk Kuligam intercepted a suspicious person identified as Aijaz Ahmad Khan, son of Gh Hassan, resident of Dudi Dapal A/P Gagal Lolab. During search, 72 grams of charas-like substance wrapped in corn husk was recovered from his possession.
Similarly in Baramulla, a police party headed by SHO Police Station Uri at a checkpoint established at Bandi Crossing, intercepted a person identified as Faizal Ahmad Khan, son of Reyaz Ahmad, resident of Paranpeelan. During search, 30 grams of charas and 1.5 Kgs of cannabis powder like substances were recovered from his possession.
Further police party headed by SHO Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Veerwan Baramulla, intercepted a person identified as Farooq Ahmad Lone, son of Ali Mohd, resident of Heewan Sheeri. During search, 50 grams of charas like contraband substance was recovered from his possession.
All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, the spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, a police party of Police Station Kheerbawani at a checkpoint established at Theeru intercepted a suspicious person identified as Mohammad Aarif Khan son of Noor Mohd Khan resident of Theeru, the spokesperson said. During his search, he said, 30 grams of charas and 4.5 Kgs of Bangpatri was recovered from his possession. “He was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in Police custody.” During investigation, he disclosed that he has kept more contraband substance at the residential house of another accused at Takiebal Ganderbal.
“Acting swiftly, the investigating team raided the said residential house. The said house was searched in presence of Executive Magistrate 1st Class & 11 Kgs of contraband substance Bangpatri was seized on the spot. Efforts are on to apprehend the other accused person.”
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 51/2024, under relevant sections of NDPS Act stands registered at PS Kheerbawani and investigation has been taken up.
