JKP’s Cyber Cell solves major online financial scam, recovers 68 stolen mobile phones

SRINAGAR: The Cyber Cell of Jammu and Kashmir Police has successfully recovered 68 stolen or missing mobile phones, valued at lakhs of rupees, and solved a significant online financial fraud case in Ganderbal.
In response to numerous complaints from the public regarding missing or stolen mobile phones, the Cyber Cell Ganderbal launched a dedicated investigation. A special team, led by Sub-Inspector Gowhar Nazir and supervised by Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP) Malik Aijaz-JKPS, worked tirelessly to track down and recover the phones. Of the 68 mobile phones recovered, 50 have been returned to their rightful owners, while the remaining 18 phones are in the process of being returned, police said in a statement.
In addition to this success, the Cyber Cell Ganderbal has also solved a major online financial fraud case, where a total amount of Rs 1,63,449 was successfully recovered and refunded to the victim’s account. Furthermore, Rs 11,45,669.08 has been temporarily put on hold, following multiple complaints related to fraudulent financial transactions. The Cyber Cell has also resolved over 44 cases of blackmailing and social media account hacks.
In light of these developments, the Cyber Cell Ganderbal has urged the public to exercise caution while using mobile phones and electronic gadgets, and to be vigilant against cybercrimes. If anyone falls victim to cybercrime or fraud, they are advised to immediately file a complaint on the national online portal [cybercrime.gov.in](http://cybercrime.gov.in) and report the matter to the Cyber Cell Ganderbal.
Cyber Safety Precautions:
To help safeguard against cyber fraud and crimes, the public is advised to follow these safety guidelines:
– Do not share Aadhaar, PAN Card, or any financial-related OTPs with anyone.
– Avoid clicking on suspicious links received from unknown sources.
– Do not share your passwords and ensure that you use strong, unique passwords.
– Enable multifactor authentication (Two-Step Verification) wherever possible.
– Do not use public Wi-Fi for conducting financial transactions.
– Limit the personal information you share on social media platforms.
By following these precautions, individuals can significantly reduce their risk of falling victim to cyber-related crimes.
