SRINAGAR: In a significant action against the illegal liquor trade, police in Shopian have arrested a person and seized illicit liquor from his possession.
A police party of PS Shopian, during a routine patrol at Batapora Shopian, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag who tried to flee after noticing a police party but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Bhashkar Shagosh Chavhan son of Shagosh Chavhan resident of Ramaji Nagar Sonala Road Borgaon District Akola Maharashtra A/P Tenant at Batpora Chowk Shopian, police said in a statement, adding that during the search, 26 bottles of illicit liquor were found in the bag. He was arrested and shifted to the police station.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 152/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Shopian and an investigation has been initiated.
“J&K Police urges the citizens to come forward with any information related to drug or liquor Trafficking in their area, as community cooperation is vital in our fight against social evils,” the statement said.
