JKP’s Cyber Cell recovers Rs 1,58,184 in online financial frauds in Kupwara

SRINAGAR: The Cyber Cell of J&K Police has successfully resolved multiple cases of online financial fraud, preventing further losses and recovering a total of Rs 1,58,184. The swift action and effective tactics employed by the Cyber Cell in Kupwara have led to the resolution of various scams, including online job scams, credit card update scams, investment fraud, SIM card update fraud, and fake credit message scams.
In one case, a complainant was defrauded of Rs 23,000 in a task-based job scam. Upon receiving the complaint, the Cyber Cell quickly gathered evidence and successfully recovered the full amount. Another victim lost Rs 20,590 in a credit card update scam, where fraudsters misled the victim into following fraudulent steps. The Cyber Cell intervened promptly, recovering Rs 20,000 of the lost funds.
In a separate incident, a victim was swindled out of Rs 44,270 with promises of double returns on investments, leading to multiple transactions. The Cyber Cell acted swiftly to block the transactions, safeguarding the entire amount. Additionally, another complainant lost Rs 69,500 due to a SIM card update scam, but the Cyber Cell managed to recover Rs 14,500 for this victim.
In another case, a victim lost Rs 72,001 to a different online fraud, but the Cyber Cell was able to recover Rs 52,001. Lastly, a complainant fell for a fake credit message and lost Rs 5,000, from which Rs 4,413 was recovered through quick action.
The J&K Police urge the public to remain vigilant against online financial fraud, including fake trading platforms, suspicious links, unauthorized apps, and fraudulent calls. Always exercise caution when sharing personal or financial information online. Report any suspicious activity immediately to the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930 or via the website cybercrime.gov.in.
