Er Ehtisham Khan pays tribute to Ratan Tata

Terms him a titan of industry and humanity

SRINAGAR: “With profound grief, I join the nation in mourning the passing of Ratan Tata, one of India’s most revered industrialists, philanthropists, and compassionate souls, who left this world at Breach Candy Hospital, Mumbai. Today, we lost not only a business leader but a man whose heart beat for the progress and welfare of the nation,” said Er. Ehtisham Khan, a prominent Social & Student Rights Activist and Co-founder; The Purpose (Regd.NGO).
“For me personally, it is an immensely difficult moment. We didn’t just lose Ratan Tata, we lost a national treasure, a guiding star whose absence will be felt deeply across all corners of society,” he said in a statement issued here.
Khan said Ratan Tata’s name is synonymous with progress, innovation, and integrity. “His tenure at the helm of the Tata Group not only transformed the conglomerate into a global powerhouse but redefined what it meant to lead with purpose. Under his leadership, industries like steel, automobiles, telecommunications, and hospitality flourished, shaping the modern Indian economy. Yet, what truly set Mr. Tata apart was his unwavering commitment to the people of this country—his vision for a better India extended far beyond boardrooms and corporate figures,” he said.
Er Ehtisham said Mr. Tata was the embodiment of ethical business, a man who believed that wealth and power should be used to uplift society. “Through the Tata Trusts and other philanthropic ventures, he directed enormous resources towards education, healthcare, and social justice. His contributions to building schools, hospitals, and providing scholarships are just a few examples of his tireless dedication to the upliftment of the marginalized. It is this human touch that elevated him from a mere businessman to a symbol of hope and possibility,” he said.
Ratan Tata’s work in education has left a deep and lasting impact on the student community, he said, adding that his initiatives in establishing institutes of excellence and providing scholarships to countless students from disadvantaged backgrounds created opportunities where none existed. “He believed in nurturing the next generation, ensuring they had the tools and support to realize their full potential. As an advocate for student rights, I have always been inspired by his dedication to empowering youth through education and skill development,” Khan said.
Mr Ratan Tata’s philanthropy also extended to disaster relief, rural development, and scientific research, he said, adding, “Whether it was providing aid during national emergencies or supporting innovations that could drive sustainable development, Ratan Tata never shied away from his responsibility to the nation. He gave India a blueprint for how businesses can thrive while making meaningful contributions to society at large.”
“The loss of Ratan Tata is a personal and collective tragedy for all of us who are striving to make the world a better place. He taught us that business, at its core, is not just about profits—it is about purpose. He was truly a Ratan (gem) in the truest sense, and his legacy will continue to light our way forward,” Er Ehtisham added.
