Police arrest two notorious drug peddlers in Sopore

SRINAGAR: In a concerted effort to combat drug trafficking, police have arrested two notorious drug peddlers in Sopore and seized contraband substances from them.
“A police team, led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Tarzoo and supervised by SDPO Sopore Sarfaraz Bashir-JKPS, intercepted the suspects at a checkpoint on Sofi Akbar Road, Chankhan,” police said in a statement, adding, “The individuals arrested have been identified as Muzafar Ahmad Marazi, alias Muzz Marazi, a well-known drug peddler, and Ishfaq Ahmad Lone. Marazi is the son of Mohammad Akbar Marazi, a resident of Sofi Hamam Sopore, while Lone is the son of Abdul Majeed Lone from Wangam Bandipora.”
During the search, police recovered 5 grams of a substance resembling heroin. Both individuals have been taken into custody at Police Station Tarzoo, where they remain under investigation.
“A case has been registered against them under relevant sections of the law, and investigations are ongoing. Notably, Muzafar Ahmad Marazi has a history of involvement in multiple cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act across various police stations,” the statement said.
The police said they encourage the community to report any instances of drug peddling or other criminal activities by contacting the nearest police station or dialing 112. They have urged the public to cooperate in eradicating the drug menace and assured community members that law enforcement will take strong action against offenders.
