India beat Pakistan by 6 wickets in Women’s T20 World Cup

DUBAI: India defeated Pakistan by six wickets in their Women’s T20 World Cup fixture, in Dubai on Sunday.

Chasing 106 runs, India reached 108/4 in 18.5 overs with Shafali Verma smacking 32 runs off 35 balls, including three fours.

Jemimah Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Kaur played crucial knocks. Jemimah registered 23 off 28 balls. On the other hand, Harmanpreet retired hurt after slamming 29 off 24 deliveries. Meanwhile, Fatima Sana struck twice for Pakistan.

Initially, Arundhati Reddy struck thrice as India restricted Pakistan to 105/8 in 20 overs. Nida Dar top-scored for Pakistan, registering 28 runs off 34 balls. Shreyanka Patil also took two wickets for India. The result also saw India bag their first win of the campaign, having lost to New Zealand in their opener.

Speaking after the win, Smriti Mandhana gave an update to fans about Harmanpreet’s injury. She said, “Too soon to say anything, the medics are looking at it. Hopefully she is alright. As a bowling unit, we were very disciplined and in the field we were good too. We could have done with a better start with the bat, but we will take this. (On net run-rate) We were thinking about it but me and Shafali weren’t able to time it well. So we didn’t want to get to a place where we were chasing the game, but NRR is surely in our heads. This game will give us some momentum and hopefully we can keep going in this tournament.”

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana said, “Weren’t up to the mark with batting. We were at least 10-15 runs short. Hopefully, next match we can do well. I enjoyed playing against the Indians, enjoyed my time here.”
