Police arrest two drug peddlers in Ganderbal

SRINAGAR: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, police have arrested two drug peddlers in Ganderbal and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police party from PP Shadipora apprehended two suspicious persons while patrolling at Khan Mohallah Bund, police said in a statement.
“During the search, 10.2 kg of dried mashed bhang with seeds & tops and 368 grams of Bhung Powder were recovered from their possession, adding, “They have been identified as Rizwan Ahmad Khan son of Gh Hassan Khan & Sahil Ahmad Khan son of Manzoor Ahmad Khan, both residents of Khan Mohalla.”.
Furthermore, during preliminary questioning, accused Rizwan Ahmad Khan confessed that he had stashed some more mashed Bhung Pathri at his home, police said.
Accordingly, in the presence of Executive Magistrate 1st Class, more than 2 kg and 796 Grams Bhang Patri were recovered from the residential house of the accused situated at Khan Mohalla, the statement said, adding that both the accused persons have been shifted to the police station where they remain in custody.
Subsequently, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Ganderbal and further investigation has been taken up, the statement said.
Police have urged the people to give information regarding narcotics or any other crimes to the nearest police establishment or dial 112. “The general public is requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per the law,” police said.
