Zoom Phone service debuts in India: What is it, availability and more

NEW DELHI: Zoom Phone service is now available in India. Using this service, customers can make outbound and inbound calls using the public switched telephone network (PSTN). It will work with native India phone numbers. The video communications company received the Unified License with Access – All/Pan India and Long Distance from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in April 2023.

Announcing the Zoom Phone service in India, Velchamy Sankarlingam, president of product and engineering, Zoom said “Zoom’s cloud PBX service meets the requirements of India’s Unified Telecom license which requires building the dedicated local interconnection infrastructure in accordance with the regulatory requirements.

This demonstrates Zoom’s commitment to bringing a trusted service that our customers want”.

What is Zoom Phone service

Zoom Phone service is an alternative to the existing PBX (private branch exchange) system used by businesses. It integrates seamlessly with Zoom Workplace, allowing companies to manage all their communication needs on a single platform.

Zoom Phone service will be available as an add-on to Zoom’s existing paid customers. It integrates with leading business applications, contact center partners, and hardware providers, offering an all-in-one collaboration platform for MNCs with a domestic presence and businesses of all sizes.

Additionally, the service incorporates AI-powered features like post-call summaries, voicemail prioritization, and task extraction, all aimed at boosting productivity and improving user experience. The service complies with India’s Unified Telecom license, requiring the establishment of a dedicated local interconnection infrastructure to meet regulatory standards.

Zoom Phone service available in Pune

Announcing the new service, Zoom India said that the service will initially be available in Pune circle. Zoom Phone service will be expanded to other telecom circles including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Mumbai and Delhi in the coming months, the company said in a statement.
