KU mourns colleague’s demise, holds condolence meet

SRINAGAR: The University of Kashmir (KU) Monday mourned the untimely demise of Reyaz Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rahim Bhat, a resident of Lar, Ganderbal, who passed away on Sunday due to a heart attack. Reyaz worked as MTS (Multi Tasking Staff) at the University Landscape Development Division (ULDD).
In honour of his memory, KU organised a condolence meeting in which faculty members, non-teaching staff, research scholars and students attended. They expressed their grief over this tragic loss offered prayers for the departed soul.
In her condolence message, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, conveyed her heartfelt sympathies to Reyaz’s family, stating, “We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Reyaz. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. We hope that they find strength and solace, and we pray that his soul finds eternal peace.”
KU Registrar, Prof Naseer Iqbal, who chaired the meeting, also offered prayers for the departed soul.
“Reyaz was a dedicated member of our community. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and hope they receive the support they need during this trying time,” he said.
Coordinator, University Landscape Development Division (ULDD), Prof Anzar A Khuroo, reflected on Reyaz’s character, saying, “He was gentle, down to earth and always wore a smile. His dedication to work made him an asset to our team.”
Prof Khuroo also urged the KU Registrar to assist his family as per university rules, as he passed away during active service.
The meeting was also attended by officers from the administration, staff of the ULDD and employees from various university wings.
Reyaz Ahmad, aged 38, is survived by his wife and two children — 7-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son.
Earlier in the day, faculty and staff from the ULDD, led by Prof Anzar Khuroo, visited Reyaz’s native place in Lar to offer their condolences and support to the grieving family.
