DGP sanctions Rs 2.04 cr for special welfare relief, financial assistance

SRINAGAR: The Director General of Police (DGP) J&K, R.R. Swain, has approved Rs 2.04 crore as Special Welfare Relief for the next of kin (NoK) of deceased police personnel and Special Police Officers (SPOs) who have passed away while serving the department. Additionally, the DGP has sanctioned financial assistance of Rs one lakh for the marriage ceremony of a martyr’s daughter.

“The Special Welfare Relief of Rs 22 lakh each has been sanctioned to the dependents/legal heirs of deceased police personnel, including Inspector Gurdeep Singh, Head Constable (Tel) Davinder Singh, Head Constable Ram Raj, Sergeant Constable (SgCt) Manoj Kumar, SgCt Farooq Ahmad, SgCt Imtiyaz Ahmad, SgCt Gulzar Ahmad Wani, SgCt Imran Fayaz, and Constable Vishal Singh. These individuals passed away due to illness while in service,” police said in a statement.

The DGP has also sanctioned Rs 6 lakh in favour of the family/legal heirs of deceased SPO Deepak Sharma, who passed away while engaged with the Police department. Out of this amount, Rs 50,000 was already paid to the family/NoK as immediate relief for performing the last rites.

The financial assistance has been provided out of the Contributory Police Welfare Fund and is part of various welfare measures undertaken by the Police Headquarters (PHQ). The PHQ is running several schemes for the welfare of its personnel and their families, including schemes for wards of police personnel and SPOs, NoKs of martyrs, their wards, retired police personnel and their families.

The welfare measures are aimed at providing support to families who have suffered a loss due to service-related fatalities, police said.
