Event raises awareness, explores strategies to combat drug addiction

SRINAGAR: The Shahr e Khaas Literary and Cultural Welfare Society, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, organized a comprehensive one-day program at Tagore Hall on September 21, 2024, to address the pressing issue of drug abuse in the region.
The event aimed to raise awareness about the growing problem of drug addiction and explore effective strategies to combat this societal challenge. Recognizing the urgent need to address the alarming rise in drug abuse and its devastating impact on individuals, families, and the community, the organizers structured the day to provide a holistic understanding of the issue.
The program included insightful lectures from esteemed dignitaries and subject matter experts, who shared their knowledge and research findings. They discussed the root causes of drug abuse, its psychological and physiological effects, and the broader consequences for society.
In addition to thought-provoking discussions, students from various schools and colleges showcased their talents through cultural performances. These vibrant presentations highlighted the creativity of the youth and their potential as positive agents of change in the fight against drug abuse.
The event concluded with an award ceremony recognizing participants for their active involvement and contributions, inspiring others to join the cause and become advocates against drug addiction.
Mr. Tariq Ahmad Shera, President of the Shahr e Khaas Literary and Cultural Welfare Society, expressed gratitude to all attendees and emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in creating a drug-free society. He urged individuals and groups to actively participate in addressing this pressing issue for a healthier community.
Special guests included Chief Guest Principal Secretary Culture, Shri Suresh Kumar Gupta (IFS), and Guest of Honour Director of Archives, Archaeology & Museums, Shri Kuldeep Krishan Sidha (JKAS). Other notable attendees included Additional Secretary JKAACL Sanjeev Rana (JKAS), social activist Sandeep Kumar, Dr. Farooq Anwar Mirza, and Kashmiri Sufi singer Gulzar Mir, among others.
The program was hosted by Junaid Ul Islam and Faheem ul Islam. The organizers also extended thanks to media partners and sponsors, including J&K Bank, Srinagar Smart City Ltd., and Kashmir Renewable Energy Private Limited.
