Mirwaiz virtually addresses mass marriage event

SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who was scheduled to solemnize the Nikah ceremony of 60 orphan girls at a mass marriage event organized by the Al Noor Trust, Bemina was disallowed from doing so by authorities due to his continued house arrest since September 02, Mirwaiz Manzil said on Sunday. In a statement issued here, Mirwaiz Manzil said that despite his absence, Mirwaiz virtually addressed the function and expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the Al Noor Trust and its chairman Shabir Ahmed Rather and his team.

He emphasized the need for simplicity in marriages, reminding attendees that this Nikah is an act of worship in Islam and not a commercial exercise. Mirwaiz urged people to support these endeavours and follow Islamic traditions of simplicity, avoiding wasteful show-offs and extravagant displays of wealth in our marriages. He expressed his disappointment at being unable to attend the event in person, condemning the government’s actions. “It is unfortunate that he was prevented from participating in such an inspiring social initiative for the Muslim community,” he said.
