Training on production practices of temperate fruits for tribals held at KVK Gbl

SRINAGAR: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ganderbal (SKUAST-K) on Wednesday concluded the training programme on production practices of important temperate fruit crops for tribal farmers of district Ganderbal in collaboration with Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (CITH), Srinagar at KVK Ganderbal, Shuhama Campus.
The programme was conducted under the patronage of Prof Nazir A. Ganie Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K,and Prof Dil Mohammad Makhdomi (Director Extension- SKUAST-K). During the inaugural session, Chief scientist and Head KVK Ganderbal, Dr Ishfaq Abidi deliberated on the overview of the programme and apprized the participants about the latest technologies available in horticulture sector. He stressed upon the farmers to transform as entrepreneurs in the field of horticulture.
Nodal officer TSP (ICAR) Dr. Sajad-u-Nabi extensively discussed the opportunities in production potential of temperate fruit crops and assured the tribal farmers about technological support through quality inputs, planting material and management practices.
The scientists of KVK Ganderbal, Dr. Rafiya, Dr. Suja, Dr. Farooq, Dr. Shaheen and Scientists Dr. Muneeb & Dr. Sachin (CTO) of CITH-ICAR interacted with the participants regarding their production issues.A total of 55tribal farmers participated in the said programme. Deliberation and feedback about training was summarized. Dr. Abidi, Chief scientist and Head stressed on the farmers to make a beginning in this sector which is highly remunerative and can act as additional enterprise for income generation in the district.
