7 arrested in Srinagar, Pulwama, Anantnag; contraband seized
SRINAGAR: In a concerted effort to combat the drug menace in Kashmir, police arrested seven drug peddlers across Srinagar, Pulwama, and Anantnag, recovering significant quantities of contraband substances.
In Srinagar, a police checkpoint established by the Police Station Shalteng at Sozeith Bund intercepted a Swift vehicle (UK14TA-1714) with three occupants. The suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended. A search of the vehicle revealed 6.55 grams of brown sugar and 2.1 kilograms of ground cannabis. The suspects, identified as Zubair Ahmad Sheikh of Lawaypora, and Rafiq Ahmad Mir and Shahid Ahmad Sheikh, both of Panzinara, have been arrested and are in custody. The vehicle used in the crime has been seized.
In Pulwama, a similar operation by the Police Station Pulwama at Gudoora Bridge led to the interception of a Scorpio vehicle (JK13A-4513) carrying two individuals. Upon inspection, 70 bottles of liquor were found. The occupants, Nazir Ahmad Thoker of Gudoora Pulwama and Awtar Ghoslay of Akhola, Maharashtra, were arrested, and their vehicle was confiscated.
In Anantnag, police actions led to the arrest of two more drug peddlers. A bike (PB08C-2618) was stopped by a team from the Police Post Sangam at Panjpora Astanpora, where they discovered 13 bottles of illicit liquor on the rider, Mohd Abbas Khan of Dadoo Marhama. Meanwhile, another operation by the Police Station Anantnag at Khanabal Chowk resulted in the arrest of Mubarak Ahmad Wagay (alias Muhammad Rajab Wagay), a notorious liquor seller, with 65 bottles of illicit liquor. Both suspects have been taken into custody, and the vehicles involved have been seized.
All individuals are currently in custody at their respective police stations, and cases under relevant sections of law have been registered, with investigations underway.
