Regional Director Dr. A.H. Rizvi emphasizes importance of original research
SRINAGAR: The ongoing project viva for MA Education, Anthropology, Computer Science, and Psychology students at IGNOU’s Regional Centre Srinagar, held from August 20-22, has been an important platform for students to present their research work. Regional Director Dr. A.H. Rizvi interacted with the students during this period, emphasizing the significance of the viva as more than just a presentation opportunity but also as a way to practically apply and express their research.
Dr. Rizvi discussed the key components of an effective presentation, advising students to cover areas such as the Introduction, Review of Literature, Methodology, Findings, Objectives, Hypothesis, Sampling, and Conclusion. He highlighted the importance of understanding both qualitative and quantitative research and clarified the difference between references and bibliography in their projects. He also encouraged the use of engaging visuals and clear, concise explanations to effectively communicate the objectives and outcomes of their research.
He advised the students to thoroughly review their project work and anticipate possible questions from the evaluators. Dr. Rizvi recommended rehearsing presentations multiple times in front of peers or mentors to build confidence and obtain constructive feedback.
In his address, Dr. Rizvi outlined the evaluation criteria, which include the depth of research, originality, problem-solving approach, and the overall quality of the presentation. He urged students to demonstrate a genuine understanding of their subject areas and to approach the viva with confidence. He reassured them that the viva is an opportunity to showcase their hard work and dedication rather than something to be feared.
Dr. Rizvi concluded by emphasizing that the students’ contributions in their respective areas of specialization will significantly benefit stakeholders and government bodies in the Kashmir Valley. He encouraged them to see the viva as a stepping stone toward making meaningful contributions to their fields and the broader community.
