GANDERBAL: A devastating cloudburst triggered by heavy rains has caused widespread destruction in the dead of night in the Kaw Cherwan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district. According to locals, the Power Canal passing through the upper part of the town became blocked due to the heavy rainfall and a sudden cloudburst exacerbating the situation. The blockage led to a rise in water levels, threatening widespread flooding and prompting authorities and residents to call for the urgent evacuation of Cherwan, Padabal, and surrounding areas.
Multiple vehicles were trapped in the mudflow, and several residential houses in the affected area were damaged, with water and mud entering the homes. Residents were forced to evacuate, seeking shelter in safer areas.
Officials said that the agricultural sector in the area suffered significant losses, with standing crops being severely damaged, which left the community grappling with the aftermath of the disaster.
