YSS Department rebuts news report

JAMMU: In response to recent protests highlighted in a Hindi Daily Newspaper on July 30, 2024, regarding the tentative General Merit list published by the Youth Services and Sports (YSS) department, the YSS has issued a clarifying statement. The protests concern the consideration of appointments under the calendar year quota for 2014 – 2022, as per the provisions of SO. 12 of 2022, read with SO. 412 of 2023.

The YSS clarified that the General Merit list for provisionally eligible candidates, categorized year-wise, has been published to invite objections or claims from interested candidates and the public. This list pertains to the appointment of outstanding sportspersons under the J&K Appointment Outstanding Sportspersons Rules 2022, specified by SO. 12 of 2022 and SO. 412 of 2023.

The department notified this list on July 19, 2024, and set a period of 15 days for receiving objections or claims, which will be thoroughly examined by a constituted committee. The purpose is to ensure transparency and fairness in the selection process. The YSS department emphasized that the final merit list will be released only after considering all objections and grievances to maintain the integrity of the selection process.

The department also noted the presence of some individuals attempting to undermine the transparency of the process established under SO. 12 of 2022 and SO. 412 of 2023, which aims to recognize the sports achievements of athletes over the past decade.

Individuals with grievances or objections concerning the provisional merit list are encouraged to submit their concerns to the official email id [email protected] by August 4, 2024. The YSS department assured that all grievances and objections would be considered strictly on merit as per the provisions outlined in SO. 12 of 2022 and SO. 412 of 2023.
