India’s Education System Falls Prey To Unsupportive Educators

A growing concern in the Indian education sector is that students are turning into victims of unsupportive teachers, which has severe consequences that can prevail throughout their lifetime. The act of toxic teaching is engaged in a heated debate by educators, administrators, and parents, all arguing that there is a need for action regarding this matter.
The most recent research outlines that having to face hostile teacher behaviour makes students become alienated from the process of learning, which may have implications in the form of poor academic achievement, decreased motivation, and eventually a higher rate of school dropout. According to the research, 1 in 4 Indian students reports hostile teacher behaviour against them. Of these, 70% show a decrease in motivation, and 35% of these would consider dropping out of school.
“Teachers have a deep impact on the education of a student,” said Dr Ramesh Kumar, one of the topmost education psychologists. “When teachers can’t provide that enabling environment, he will develop hatred toward education and go into that vicious cycle of disengagement, leading to underachievement.”

The issue of toxic teaching in India must be addressed by educators, administrators, and parents at all levels. Only through teacher training, support, and resources can a positive classroom-learning environment be established whereby learners would be engaged, motivated, and successful.
