Arun Malhotra, AIFF President discuss football development in J&K

SRINAGAR: Arun Malhotra, a prominent former international footballer and Technical Member of AIFF, met with Kalyan Chaubey, President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), in New Delhi on July 16, 2024, to discuss the football landscape and related issues in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

During the meeting, Malhotra expressed his gratitude to AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey for his pivotal role in selecting Srinagar, J&K, to host the inaugural National camp for SAFF U-16 last year. This marked the first-ever hosting of a National Camp for the Under-16 Championship in Jammu and Kashmir, supported by JKSSC, which was a significant milestone in the region’s football history.

Continuing their support, the AIFF President generously offered another opportunity for J&K by granting the Under-17 football camp to be held in Srinagar. This inclusion of J&K in AIFF’s vision and roadmap for football development is expected to greatly inspire players and foster the growth of the sport in the region.

Malhotra also extended his appreciation to AIFF for appointing Mr. Ishfaq Ahmad, former international footballer and head coach of U-16 and U-17 teams, which triumphed in the SAFF Under-16 Championship. He emphasized that these developments were the result of tireless efforts by JKSSC, AIFF, and all involved in the football development of J&K.

Speaking passionately about the initiatives, Malhotra remarked, “I am emotionally overwhelmed that our proposals to boost football in Jammu and Kashmir are being accepted and implemented in phases. Hosting the first-ever National Camp for U-16 and now U-17 in Srinagar is a significant step forward.”

Furthermore, discussions encompassed various football-related issues, with President AIFF expressing eagerness for the prompt establishment of an elected body for the Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA). He emphasized the importance of collaboration with local stakeholders and J&K Sports Council to devise tailored plans and projects for the sport’s development in the Union Territory.

Malhotra acknowledged the crucial support from the JK administration, thanking the Hon’ble LG, Chief Secretary, Commissioner Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, and Ms. Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of Sports Council, for facilitating football activities and implementing positive initiatives. Looking ahead, he expressed optimism for future initiatives and envisioned J&K football players and coaches achieving recognition at national and international levels.
