Geology & Mining Dept raids illegal sand mining, seizes two mechanical boats in Awantipora

PAMPORE: In a decisive action against illegal sand mining, the Geology and Mining Department Pulwama, led by District Mineral Officer (DMO) Engineer Mohammad Manzoor along with his team, conducted raids on unauthorized sand extraction activities in the river Jhelum on late Saturday evening.
This operation carried out in the Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, resulted in the seizure of two mechanical boats engaged in illegal sand mining, officials informed Kashmir Reader.
The intensive operation took place at the sand extraction site in the Gagribal area of Awantipora, where after a long and hectic effort, the department’s team was able to successfully seize the two mechanical boats involved in the illegal activity.
Engineer Mohammad Manzoor said this crackdown is part of an ongoing effort to curb illegal mining in the region.
The crackdown on illegal mining activities will continue until complete control is established, said DMO Pulwama. He emphasized the department’s commitment to addressing the issue round-the-clock, highlighting that a dedicated team is actively working day and night to tackle illegal mining.
The two boats seized during the raid were found to be operating without authorization, extracting sand from the river Jhelum. The department has taken decisive action by removing these boats from the river, aiming to set a strong precedent against such illegal activities.
DMO Pulwama assured that the department will remain vigilant and continue its efforts to eliminate illegal sand mining, ensuring the preservation of natural resources and maintaining ecological balance in the region.
