Police arrest drug peddler in Sopore

BARAMULLA: In continuation of its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Police in Sopore arrested a drug peddler and recovered psychotropic substances from his possession.
“A police party of Police Station Tarzoo headed by SHO Police Station Tarzoo under the supervision of SDPO Sopore at a checkpoint established at Pethseer crossing intercepted a suspicious person carrying a bag. During the search, the police party was able to recover 12 bottles of Codeine Phosphate from the bag. He has been identified as Nazir Ahmad Yatoo son of Ghulam Rasool Yatoo resident of Sangrama Sopore. He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody,” police said in a statement.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 61/2024 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Tarzoo & further investigation has been initiated.
“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact the nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with the police in curbing the menace of drugs from society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said.
